About
Hikari is a software program that utilizes the serial
remote interface to control the Hercules planetarium theater
system from manufactured by East Coast Control.
Generally, it is used to control the LED cove lights attached
to the system, but it can also be used to control other
devices such as slide projectors. Current functionality
includes an advanced fader control and real-time
visualizations to music and sound played on the computer.
How It Works
The input module uses DirectX and the record system mixer to
capture live audio data. It is then analyzed for intensity
and beat detection. The effect module uses this data in
effect scripts, which are used to create a stream of remote
commands for the Hercules control system. Depending on the
effect script and audio data, these commands set level values
for the cove lights, generally using the Hercules "LN"
command. The commands are then sent of the com port and
executed in real time.
