Counseling Services

The Student Services Department serves a variety of student needs. Individual and support group counseling and family support are just a few of the many services our department has to offer. We also schedule career conferences with all 8th graders and parent/teacher conferences. We do classroom presentations at each grade level, depending on curriculum needs.  Professional School Counselors focus on the academic, career, personal, social, and behavioral needs of all students.  We work closely with parents, administrators, school staff and community resources to provide quality services to students at all grade levels.

Support Groups

Confidential support groups are offered each year and depending on student needs, the available groups include: divorce, death/grief, anger management, social, and concerned person.  The size of the support groups vary, with 8 to 10 being the usual size. The groups are held during SOAR time, one time per week for 8 weeks.

8th Grade Educational/Career Planning Conferences

Every 8th grade student and their parent(s) will be invited to go through their current talents and interests, their educational and career development and information to begin planning for high school and beyond.  Topics include an overview of your child’s academic performance, career assessment and learning style results, strengths and interests, career plans, Wisconsin Covenant Program, and high school information including scheduling.

Community Connection

Funds given for a memorial to the family of a former Wausau School District graduate who died in 2009 from a drug overdose were used to create a brochure for parents who are concerned about their child’s use of drugs.  The brochure is titled Roadmap for Parents.  You may access this brochure online.
