Autism Spectrum Disorder is one of several Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD) which are characterized by impairment in social interaction skills, communication skill, sensory development, and the presence of stereotyped behavior, interest, and activities.
It is often referred to as a spectrum disorder. Spectrum disorder meant that the symptoms and characteristic of Autism can present themselves in a wide variety of combinations, from middle to sever. Autism and its associated disabilities occur in approximately 1 out of every 110 individuals. Autism is four times more prevalent in boys than in girls and knows no racial, ethnic, or social boundaries.
To date, Autism is not curable, but is treatable. Early diagnosis, intervention, and a system of supports are vital to the future development of the child.
