Welcome to the Wausau School District Four Year Old Kindergarten (4K) Program and Early Childhood Special Education Program!

Our 4K Collaborative Program is taught by certified teachers, specializing in early childhood education.  All children participate in an instructional program, that meets the Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards.  Our 4K classrooms focus on the unique learning needs of four and five year olds while intentionally teaching the elements critical to future school success in an age appropriate learning environment. Children must be four years old on or before September 1st

The District currently offers the 4K Program at seven community childcare sites, seven school sites, and Marathon County Head Start.  Busing is offered to students living in the transportation zone for school sites and Head Start (if eligible)

Planning for your child’s first year of formal school is an exciting and sometimes stressful time.  Please know that our qualified staff at any of our sites can help answer your questions or call the A.C. Kiefer School, hub to our 4 K Program, at 715-261-0265

Not all Wausau School District elementary schools have 4K programs.  If your neighborhood school does not have a 4K Program, your child could attend and/or be bussed to one of the 4K elementary schools. See the flyer below for complete information about 4k options.

Locations may be subject to change depending on enrollment numbers and staffing.  We also serve eligible students at Head Start.

Our Early Childhood Special Education Program serves students from three to five years old who meet eligibility criteria.  We strive to provide an educational program to students in their natural environments.  Our special education services are located in a variety of locations including the students' homes, childcare sites, and preschools depending on the educational and functional needs of each student.  If you have any questions about your child's development, we offer free "Child Find" screening each month.  Please call the A.C. Kiefer office at 715-261-0265 to set up an appointment.
