Just a couple of miles north
and west of the city of Wausau, nestled between the red granite mine and the
ginseng fields, sits a crown gem of an elementary school.
Originally constructed in 1960, Maine School sits on 15 beautiful acres. The
southeast five acres being heavily wooded with lots of wildlife and nature
trails for exploration.
Maine School has a total of 39 teachers and support staff as well as 244
students in kindergarten through fifth grade.
Maine School has an active Student Council and PTO. Each year they
raise thousands of dollars to help support the school's technology program,
participate in numerous state and national contests, and to purchase equipment
to support student learning. In 4th and 5th grades students have an
opportunity to be involved in flag football, volleyball, basketball, track, Book
Bowl, and other athletic and academic activities.
